Fairs
in Rajasthan
Fairs
in Rajasthan bring with them the true essence of Rajasthan and the Thar.
The focal point at the time of Kartik Purnima in the state is Pushkar
Camel Fair, the largest animal fair in the world. It is an event in
which thousands of people bring camels, horses and bullocks for sale.
Camel races and other sports are also organised. Urs Fair also got a
significance of its own for the town of Ajmer, where the Dargah of great
'Sufi' saint Sheikh Moinnuddin Chisti is situated. Each year, devotees
of all sects and faiths come here to seek the saint's blessings for
fulfillment of their wishes. Other fairs such as Nagaur Fair in Nagaur,
Camel Festival in Jodhpur, Baneshwar Fair in Dungarpur and Banganga Fair
near Bairath also flock up large number of enthusiasts every year.
