Horsley hills are one of the
famous hill resorts of Andhra Pradesh. It is named after WD Horsley,
who was the collector of Cuddapah district. Horsley chose this spot
for his summer residence. It is situated at an altitude of 1,265 m,
which makes this place delightfully cool, with a maximum summer
temperature of 32°C, and minimum of 20°C. the shady slopes found
in this are wooded with luxurious vegetation.
Lushed With Natural Beauty
Thick verdure of various
species of plants can be seen as one starts the journey to this
wonderful place. Entire stretches of narrow roads are covered with
the dense growth of Eucalyptus, Jacaranda, Allamanda, Gulmohar and
many other species. Besides, there are also forest denizens like
bears, wild dogs, jungle fowls, Sambar and Panthers.
The air here is fresh and
unadulterated, which gives perfect peace of mind and is a heavenly
bliss to stay at this place. As one proceeds towards the hills one
comes across the trees of Rita, Shikakai, Amla, Beedi, Bay leaves,
Sandalwood, Red sanders, Mahogany and Bamboo.
Chenchu tribes live here with
their famous Pungannur cows, who eat less fodder but yield more
milk. A 150-year-old Eucalyptus tree "Kalyani" is also an
attraction at Horsley Hills. About 87-km away from the hillock is
the Kaundinya wild life sanctuary.
